A year ago Avrams dream was to play for the NFL. He had a couple colleges looking at him and we thought he was destine to go on in football.
We lost our football coach and watched a top ranked team become one of the worst teams in the state.
After that season more than 20 players left the team. They either decided not to play or they went to play for another school. This left a skeleton of a team.
The new coach was fired but not before setting the schedule for the next year. Avrams team had been set up to play a handful of teams that were top ranked teams in the state.
With a preseason against top teams with a lot of depth and size our poor boys were injured and the team was falling apart both physically and mentally.
When they finally got to their region games, where they should have won most of the games, the boys were so beat up that they could even picture winning.
I really believe if they could have won a game we would have seen a turn around in the season but everything they got ahead something would happen and they would end up loosing over a fluke.
The season began to drag on, many of the boys couldn't take the pressure and many more quit the team.
All the boys were so excited for the season to be over that there was no way to turn things around. Even Avram dreaded everyday. It was truly heart breaking to see these boys that were champions in their age group as freshmen, they only lost two games as sophomores and then for the next two years only won two games.
This is Avram on senior night. In the picture below he is with his friend Stephan. Avram friends are the Polynesians. Many of them spend a lot of time at our house. It was touching to see the leis that were given to Avram that day. I am so sad this stage of life is over. I loved watching Avram play football.

That's really neat to see how many leis Avram received. Even though he didn't win many games these past two years, it has been so fun to watch Avram blossom in high school. He's made some good friends and he has learned to work hard. You've got a great kid!
ReplyDeleteI know that some day the Lord will teach Avram some great principles that he learned from playing a season with no wins. I am so glad he didn't quit. He has grown so much not just physically.
ReplyDeleteSad that the team lost such a great coach. Good for him for sticking with it even when it wasn't as much fun as it was before. Lots of good lessons. Those Leis are impressive.
