Stuck

We decided to take the kids to Disney World.  Neither Adam or I had ever been and we have heard that it is a great time to go because it isn't too crowded.  Disney World was also offering deals that were 40% off its regular price.  We planned to go the end of February but Ila came down with Covid just 3 days before we were suppose to leave.  We postponed the trip to the end of April so that we could miss all the spring breakers.
Everything seemed to start out normal.  We didn't have any problems getting on the flight and it seemed like this trip was going to be a breeze.  As we approached our lay over in Atlanta Georgia the pilot informed us that there was a really bad storm and we were going to wait for it to pass.  We flew around just outside the storm for about an hour until it passed and we were able to safely land.
Once we got in the airport we started looking for our connecting flight.  It was canceled.  Adam and I had been rebooked for Sunday night (it was Saturday evening) and the kids weren't booked at all.  After waiting in a long line Delta informed us that they couldn't get us flown out together until Monday evening.  We asked them about a hotel and they said all the hotel were booked.
We were frustrated because we had to previously book our Disney World Day because they limit the number of people that can enter.  We were going to miss one of our two days at Disney World.
Adam and I decided to rent a car and just drive to Orlando.
After arriving at the rental car company we were told they were completely out of cars and there was nothing available until 5 am.
We worked on tracking down an hotel, thinking maybe we could uber to a hotel and stay for the night.  The nearest hotel available was over an hour away and it was midnight at this point.
After standing in line again to try to find our luggage we were told our luggage was not available.  We now had less than 5 hours until our rental car reservation would be available.  We wondered around the airport trying to find an open chair or bench.  Nothing was available.  The restaurants were closed so luckily had had packed extra snacks.

We finally found this floor with carpet on a different level in the airport.  There were people every few feet trying to find a place to stay for the night.  This was a horrible night!!!
At 4:30am we started our trek back to the rental car place.  We waited in line until 5:30 am because the car business was closed due to computer problems.  Finally at 5:30 they opened their window and said, "any one that has made a reservation in the last 24 hours we can't help until later today when our system is back up and going."

So it was back to delta.  We decided we would just break up our flights.  We really just needed to make sure Ila was with someone so she didn't have to fly alone.  Then we would figure out how to meet up once we arrived in Orlando.  The receptionist ended up asking us if we were willing to fly into Melbourne Florida and then drive the rest of the way.  This got us about 1.5 hours to our hotel so we jumped on the opportunity.  Unfortunately only part of our luggage made it to Melbourne.  The rest ended up in Orlando.  So we drove to Orlando airport to pick up the rest of our luggage and then we were ready to start our vacation.
When we finally got to our hotel Sunday evening we drug ourselves into bed and we all collapsed.

  1. WOW! What a nightmare! I still feel horrible that you got Covid from us right before your trip in February. It's probably good you avoided us before your trip because I caught a cold from Justin.

  2. That is the worst beginning to a vacation. I am glad the rest of the week was wonderful.
